Nov 10, 2014  What's the scoop on hard drive size limits? I have heard there is a 2TB limit. Does that apply only to the system drive? I am running XP Home SP3 32 bit and using a 3TB external USB drive for backups and storage only, no system. May 20, 2005  Windows XP cannot be installed on an external drive, only an internal drive. Latest version of labview. External drives are designed for file storage and backups only. Aug 31, 2016  which is not compatible with Windows XP 32-Bit (which only supports MBR Partition Style) So, you can reformat the Hard Drive to MBR (NTFS,FAT32 etc) and it will be compatible with XP 32-Bit (but, realize MBR only supports a Maximum Capacity of 2TB) Windows XP 64-Bit, Windows 7,8,10 all compatible with GPT (and MBR).

I have two issues which are basically the same. I have an external USB hard drive that I connect to a computer running Windows XP. Windows USB driver recognizes the hard drive and shows the drive in Device Manager but Windows does not show the drive in Windows Explorer. A customer has a USB FLASH device that is recognized by the USB driver, but does not map to a disk in Windows Explorer. How do I get Windows to map an external USB device in Windows Explorer?
